As some of you may know the government has brought out new legislation that comes into effect on 1 June 2019. From this point forward lettings agents will no longer be able to charge applicants for the privilege of making the application. We at urbanbubble were already not charging the large sums that some lettings agents charge for apartments and we are confident that this change will be a positive one for residents.
What cant be charged anymore?
From the 1 June the following fees are not able to be charged to a resident at the point of application:
- Charging for a guarantor form
- Credit checks
- Cleaning services
- Admin charges
- Requirements to have specific insurance providers
- Gardening services
At urbanbubble we have decided to make sure that all residents can be as informed as they want to be and we have included the guidelines from the Association of Residential Lettings Agents for your convenience so you can read through and understand what is and what isn’t allowed to be charged. All applicants that will come into the office to reserve a room from Mid-May will be told of the ban coming into effect on 1 June so they can make up their mind if they want to go ahead and reserve or if they want to wait until the 1 June.
